What is Kvatch Rebuilt?
It's a mod for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion that aims to rebuild the city of Kvatch, which is destroyed in the games quest line. The mod aims to stay true to the feel of the original game and rebuild Kvatch over several stages.
What are the requirements to run Kvatch Rebuilt?
You need TES IV:Oblivion patched to 1.1.511 or greater, though it is recommended you patch up to 1.2.0416. OBSE and the Shivering Isles expansion are NOT required.
Does this have to be used with a new character or can I start it with my existing one?
Kvatch Rebuilt will work with a character at any stage of the game, from one who's never met the Emperor, to one who's completed all that Cyrodiil has to offer.
Does this mod contain voice acting?
Not at present, though maybe in the future.
I've downloaded the file, but I have no idea what to do with it. Windows says it can't recognise the file type!
The download is a 7z file, an increasingly popular and efficient archive format. You'll need a program that can read/handle 7z files. 7Zip, WinRAR and Zip Genius are some decent programs that can do this.
What are all the different files for?
There are 3 main files required for the mod to work:
The other files are the readme (worth reading!) are compatibility patches. They are designed to make Kvatch Rebuilt merge a little more consistently with the type of world those mods create (primarily by making the levelling consistent). They should load after the relevant mod and Kvatch Rebuilt. If you are using OOO then activate Kvatch Rebuilt - OOO Compatibiltiy.esp, if you are using FCOM, then activate Kvatch Rebuilt - Levelled Guards - FCOM. Only use these patches if you are using the associated mod.
My game crashes as soon as I click on play!?!
This is indicative of a required master file (esm) being missing and/or not activated. Make sure that Kvatch Rebuilt.esm is checked in your launcher. If you are using the compatibility patches make sure their esm's are also present. (Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul, esm for OOO and both Oscuros Oblvion Overhaul and MMM for FCOM). If the version of the other mods you are using do not have masters, then either upgrade them to the latest version or don't use the patch. However ensure that Kvatch Rebuilt is loaded after the overhaul mod.
I've installed it but I'm not getting an quest updates!?
Patience! The Kvatch Rebuilt story arc will initiate once you have completed the 'The Battle for Castle Kvatch' quest. Initially you'll find the citizens move back into the city, then after about a week a messenger will find you...
I've completed a quest but the next one hasn't started!
Rome wasn't built in a day... and neither is Kvatch. You'll receive another message when the next quest kicks off.
Ok I know there's a delay between the quests but I've waited 300 years and still nothing has happened!
Between each stage/quest there is a set delay, once that delay is up the scripts that control Kvatch Rebuilt will update to the next stage as necessary. However these scripts only run periodically, if you keep waiting in rapid succession they will never have time to run properly. So wander around for a while, say 30s, this should give the scripts time to execute properly. It's also a good idea to wait outside, not in a city and away from Kvatch and the Kvatch encampment. Weye is an example of a suitable location.
I've completed most of the game and the waiting between stages is just too long. Is there any way to speed it up?
Rome wasn't built in a day... and neither is Kvatch! Having said that, we recognise people may want to rush onto the next quest. For some information and tips on how to do this see here
I've completed the gardener quest (Falling Flowers) but the next stage isn't starting no matter how long I wait!
You need to have completed the Kvatch portion of the 'Allies for Bruma' bit of the main quest, or have started the 'Defense for Bruma'. If you really don't want to do the main quest in order to progress through Kvatch Rebuilt, then you can use the console to skip this check. Move somewhere away from Kvatch, open the console and enter: SetStage KRMain04 1
In the 'Sticks and Stones' quest the Count doesn't have anything to say about Kvatch, what's going on?
In v1.0 the quest marker does point to the Count, however he is not the person you need to speak to. You need to find Arnand, a bald guy in brown robes. He should be in the castle courtyard. If he's not then have a hunt around the castle.
I'm using a mod like OOO and can't find all the souls required in the 'A Sanguine Howl' quest.
OOO and some other similar mods alter the ID's of some creatures that you need to find, such that the spell you get no longer recognises them. To allow you to progress, Kvatch Rebuilt adds it's own specific spawns for this point in the quest that will work with the spell. These compatibility spawns can be found around locations you'll already of visited in the Kvatch Rebuilt story arc. For list of locations see here
